After responding to a report of an active shooter at Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in Auburn Hills on Saturday night, which turned out to be a false alarm, police say no shots were fired.

In a tweet just before 9 p.m. on Saturday, the Auburn Hills Police Department stated, “We have confirmed no shots were fired and there are no victims.”Around 6:30 p.m., there were reports of a separate theft that sparked a fight in the mall’s food court. Officers were called to the scene.

A fight broke out in the food court while the police officers were responding to the call. According to McGraw, they intervened and had to use their tasers to arrest the individuals.

McGraw told Nearby 4 that while the officials were attempting to arrest the people, somebody in the group yelled “shots discharged.” He said that while the officers on the scene tried to control the situation, people responded appropriately by running, hiding, and fleeing.

The mall issued a widespread warning and asked people to stay put or leave. The increased police response from multiple agencies was sparked by this widespread alert.McGraw stated that the mall has been searched, but no one with injuries or a gun has been found.

During the situation inside the mall, McGraw stated that the Auburn Hills Police Department received multiple 911 calls, but they have not been able to locate any witnesses.

“It’s frustrating to see that spread of misinformation in situations like this,” McGraw stated. “Social media became inundated with claims of shots fired and it’s almost trending online.” When everyone is flooding it with false information, it is certain that getting that message out is difficult.”

This is the second occurrence to occur at a shopping center in Oakland District today, as recently, Novi Police were at Twelve Oaks Shopping center to explore a bomb danger. Due to the threat, Nordstrom was closed for about five hours, but it has since reopened. Despite the threat of a bomb, the remainder of the mall remained open.

Great Lakes Crossing started sending out alerts about active shooters to customers and employees of the mall. After conducting a thorough search of the entire mall, authorities confirmed that there were no injuries or shots fired.

Two people who were involved in the fight, according to the police, left the mall after being restrained in handcuffs. The people have not been found.
